Day 4: Recognizing Our Need for a Savior

Reading: Romans 3:10-26

Devotional: The most dangerous lie we believe is that we're basically good people. We compare ourselves to others and come out favorably, but God's standard isn't our neighbor—it's His own holiness. By God's law, we're all guilty. We're lying, stealing, murdering (in our hearts), adulterers. This isn't condemnation for condemnation's sake; it's truth that leads to freedom.

Until you recognize you're drowning, you won't reach for the lifeline. The gospel begins with bad news—we're sinners separated from God, deserving death. But then comes the glorious good news: Jesus lived the life we couldn't live and died the death we deserved. He took our place. When we stop seeing ourselves as basically good and start seeing ourselves as desperately needy, we finally understand why the cross was necessary. Have you truly recognized your need for a Savior, or are you still comparing yourself to others?
